About Dr. Geis

Dr. Hayley Geis is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and studied biology, chemistry, and psychology during her undergraduate years in the honors college at the University of South Carolina. She then traveled further south to attend the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Geis recalls that her dream of becoming a veterinarian was solidified at the age of 14 when she was on a mission trip in the small Yupik villages of Alaska, where she first experienced a true need for veterinary care in distant places. During her time at USC, Dr. Geis worked as a veterinary technician and volunteered with service animals in training, which developed her passion for the human-animal bond. While at UGA, she continued to work as a technician in the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital, traveled back to Alaska to care for the people and animals that once confirmed her passion for humans and their animals, and completed internships at many different animal hospitals. Most notably, Dr. Geis completed an extended internship (thanks COVID!) at Care First, which ended up being her longest, and favorite internship.

Dr. Geis decided to come back to Care First as a veterinarian due to the versatility and capacity of the practice. She is committed to valuing each and every human-animal bond that comes through our doors, and is excited to explore her areas of interest including surgery and imaging.

Dr. Geis has a 4 year old rescue dog named Denali (Nali for short) that she adopted while she was in vet school, and now also has a 1 year old kitty that she adopted from Second Chance after caring for him at Care First.

When she’s not at work, Dr. Geis enjoys exploring the North Carolina coast and mountains with friends and family. She is equally as excited about exploring local parks with her dog or staying home and completing DIY projects of many kinds.
