Community CareGiver Spotlight: SAFE Haven

SAFE Haven Cat Shelter & Clinic is Raleigh’s No Kill shelter located in North Raleigh.

I’m a Traxster: a jaunty black cat with a short tail and crossed eyes that will make you smile.

SAFE Haven’s mission is to ensure the well-being of every cat through adoption, affordable spay/neuter services, community outreach and adherence to No Kill principles. The shelter receives no government funds and relies solely on private donation for 72% of its budget.

Since 1994, SAFE Haven has successfully found homes for over 5200 cats. These forgotten animals are brought into our adoption program and receive complete veterinary care including spay/neuter, vaccines, and mirochipping. While in our care, each cat is provided with love, attention and socialization by both volunteers and staff until we are able to place them in their forever homes.

I’m Chester: Awesome orange tabby with expressive golden eyes.

Our dedicated and loving volunteers are the bedrock of our organization. Our team of approximately 80 volunteers ensures that each cat has a clean cage and bedding, fresh food and water, toys, and plenty of attention on a daily basis.

In addition to providing adoption services for cats and kittens in need of good homes through our adoption center, we also provide low-cost spay/neuter services for cats and small dogs through our clinic, SAFE Care.

Other community outreach programs are: a foster program for animals requiring a little extra love and care; hospice care for cats; a program where we take cats to senior living facilities; and recently SAFE Haven has started a Pet Food Pantry, to provide temporary assistance to individuals having difficulty feeding their pets.
